When It Comes to Health, We're Already Paying a Price
Most of us don't intentionally put our health on the back burner. We're busy. Really busy.
Between work, family, relationships, and the constant background noise of life, it's easy for health to slip down the priority list. Maybe we're juggling a demanding job and a long commute. Maybe we're raising kids, managing a household, or caring for aging parents. Maybe we're simply exhausted by the end of the day and the idea of meal prepping, exercising, or even drinking enough water feels overwhelming.
But whether we actively prioritize our health or not, we're still paying for it. Often in ways that aren't obvious until they pile up.
According to the CDC, Americans spend an average of $12,900 per year on healthcare, much of it related to preventable conditions like obesity, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. Chronic diseases account for 90% of the nation's $4.1 trillion in annual healthcare costs.
The Hidden Costs of Common Health Issues
The numbers are sobering. Being obese adds an average of $1,429 in extra medical costs each year. Managing type 2 diabetes runs about $9,601 annually. High blood pressure increases healthcare spending by around $1,920 per year.
And those are just the direct financial costs. There's also the emotional cost of feeling exhausted all the time. The missed opportunities when we don't have the energy to show up for our families, friends, or passions. The creeping feeling that we're surviving, not thriving.
When health becomes "something I'll get to later," later often brings a much bigger bill—financially, emotionally, and physically.
How Health Coaching Changes the Math
Working with a health coach (like one of our Humble Hustle coaches!) isn't about being perfect. It's about building momentum in ways that fit our real, messy, busy lives. When we work together, we start with doable changes—stacking small wins, building confidence, and creating a sustainable plan for movement, hydration, nutrition, and self-awareness.
The investment? Often less than a single emergency room visit—and infinitely more empowering. Plus, my coaching is an HSA/FSA approved expense, which means you can often use pre-tax dollars to invest in your long-term health.
Unlike quick-fix diets or "summer shred" programs, coaching is about creating a foundation we can stand on for years to come. It's about turning health from a crisis we react to into a daily act of care we invest in.

Why It's So Hard to Prioritize Health (And Why That's Okay)
If we feel like we "should" be prioritizing our health but just can't seem to get there, we're not broken—we're human. Our lives are packed. Our brains are constantly scanning for immediate fires to put out. Planning a week's worth of protein-rich meals or finding time for a daily walk can feel laughably impossible when we're racing between work meetings, soccer practice, or just trying to keep our heads above water. (I’m a single dad who owns multiple businesses - I get it!)
That's why one of the first things we work on in coaching is shrinking the change. We don't overhaul our lives overnight. We start with the tiniest shifts that actually fit our lives—because that's what creates real, lasting progress.
We don't need superhuman willpower. We need a repeatable process and the right kind of support.
The Bottom Line: Our Health is Worth the Investment
When we really look at it, health coaching isn't "too expensive." It's an investment in something that's already costing us, whether we acknowledge it or not. It's a decision to build the kind of life we want—with more energy, more presence, and more freedom.
The real question isn't whether coaching is worth the money. It's whether we're willing to keep paying the hidden costs of doing nothing.
